Toughness, fearlessness, and dedication …

March 31st, 2009

There is a great article on the front page of Boston.com this morning about Lucic and his rise to the NHL. There is some interesting tidbits there as well… “accomplished alto saxophonist equally adept at Beethoven and Coltrane” Wow, who knew!

Check out the story here and the photos here.

GOAL! (edit: GOALS!)

March 29th, 2009

Lucic scores about halfway through the first against Philly. He hauled up the ice and got himself into perfect position for the pass and directed it home.

Luch is riding a three game point streak now.

At the end of the first, it was almost a copy of the first goal! Luch took a nice pass from Krejci and shot it past the goalie (not even going to try to spell it). B’s lead 3-1.

Halfway through the second Lucic slams Jones against the boards behind the Philly net. Going into commercial break Jack Edwards commented: “Lucic mashes Jones… cry me a river.”

Neil vs. Lucic

March 12th, 2009

That was a brutal fight in the first period. Both guys throwing lots of hard punches. The fight only stopped when the sweater went over Luch’s head. It seems that his helmet comes off too easy and he can never get the other guy’s off! Luch went down the tunnel “for repairs” as Jack Edwards said. It’s tough to say who really won the fight. Maybe bonus points for Luch for throwing and landing a blind punch or two with the sweater over his head?

Props for Axie for giving it to Ruutu a little bit. Honorable mention for Ryder’s HUGE hit on whoever he hit in the first as well.

Highly unlikely this game will get more polite before it’s over.

Recchi! Recchi! Recchi!

March 8th, 2009

Recchi scored twice in front of a very fired up and at times antsy Garden crowd. The B’s must be happy to have a win, but that was a sloppy way to win. Timmy’s awesome play kept the B’s in the game when Chicago could have easily had another handful of goals.

Other than a handful of awesome saves by #30 which got the crowd going, two other plays stand out. First was Recchi’s second goal and the other was Axelsson’s open ice hip check during a penalty kill in I want to say the second. Recchi had the crowd chanting his name when he came out for the #1 star.

No goals or big hits by Luch, but he did get a helper on Kessel’s goal.

No Lucic, no Savard for the third period

February 27th, 2009

Luch and Savy are currently missing from the bench at the start of the third period. If I had to guess Luch is either getting stitches on that hand or he broke it trying to punch through Mike Browns head. As far as Savard goes one can only speculate that the hit he took from Parros is causing a little discomfort. Lets hope they both come back tonight.

Thort, Luch and Savard?!

February 27th, 2009

Only the second period so far but what a display of total team play. Hunwick is taking care of business on both ends of the ice, Thomas is looking like the All Star he is (with his saves AND his assist!).

Thornton responds early in the second and has a go with Parros. Thort held is own, taking a few shots and ultimately got the take down. Parros looks like he’d play on the antagonist’s team in a movie.

Luch absolutely pounded Brown. Definitely not your normal bout. That was a personal battle being fought. He was certainly fired up afterwards.

We learned that Savy can only be pushed so far. Not much of a fight due to what looked like a loss of balance.

Of course, thrown in between all this fighting is four B’s goals with two of them scored by Kobasew.

Great fire and great team chemistry happening tonight.

John Bishop wrote it best…
“That is a fired up Bruins team going to the locker room. Anaheim poked the bear and the bear woke up.”

This should be an exciting third period!

Not too much excitement so far, but Bitz shines again.  Good effort, good show of strength as he scores his fourth goal of the season.

Awesome team effort tonight

February 18th, 2009

This is the best they’ve looked in a while. Good power plays, good penalty killing (SHG in the third!). Luch had an assist, a bunch of shots and bunch of hits. He keeps coming closer to back in form.

The Bitz, Thornton, Yelle line was fun to watch all game. I’d have to imagine that would be a hell of a line to go up against in a line brawl!  Bergeron played very well – even had a huge hit in the 2nd.  Sobotka made his presence know with his “Little Big Man” (thanks Jack Edwards!) style of play all night long.

Timmy was the man again. How many times has that been the story line for a B’s game this season?

“Lucic jams it home!”

February 11th, 2009

First goal in a while! Let’s hope this is a sign Luch is back 100%. It’s still early in the game, so let’s wait for some big hits too!

Update!  Not even through the first and Luch has number 2 on the night.  This was a much more individual effort as he had a one on one with the goalie and beat him.   Good to hear his name more on the broadcast.

Lucic pays a surprise visit to Vancouver

January 27th, 2009

After deciding to sit out the young stars game this past weekend to rest up and heal his injury, Milan surprised his family and old team the Giants.

“I wanted to surprise my folks — I had told them I was going to the Bahamas,” he said. “My little brother was the first one through the door at home and I was there sitting on the couch. I think I got them pretty good. It was a thrill to see them.”
